Two weeks ago I went back to school. Not really. I started a class through the continuing education department at the Corcoran College of Art and Design. For nearly 10 years I've had the opportunity to take advantage of tuition assistance through my employer. And can you believe this is the first time I've done it? I know... After the first class I came out into the warm sun of early fall here in DC and thought "dang, I should have been doing this all along”. Where would my drawing skills be if I had?
You just can't think that way. I need to focus on what I can do from here forward. So these two drawings represent my second class. They are drawn with charcoal pencil on newsprint. I think each of these are 30 minute poses. Class normally starts with 5 or 6 one minute drawings and progressively work up to a few 30 minute poses. I am going to post the best I have from each class. (Which is every Saturday.) Hopefully as the weeks pass we'll see some improvement.
My instructor also recommended a book by artist Micheal Mattesi called Force: Dynamic Life Drawing for Animators. Many of the principles he documents are aspects of drawing that I want to focus on this time around.
